Rockabillies...
We hope you did not miss the Main Event on Funday May 9th 2008...
The Flag Staff Ballroom Stage was once the home for Dorsey Brothers when they were the house band. Orchestras like Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and singers Frank Sinatra and the like sang and played their hearts out there and now the tradition continued.
After The Wanda Jackson Rockabilly Concert some said it was the best concert they had ever been at, which makes a real rock / cool country promotion feel good. And here comes the but, unfortunately not enough fans came out to encourage the Flag Staff Ballroom to do another Rockabilly Concert in the future. I am being told part of the reason for the lower turn out was due to fact that fans called with no answer and only received a message, with no live person to talk to and after a few trys gave up on coming out. It is a real shame because the Flag Staff Ballroom is such a beautiful venue with a great view and the sound is so good inside, plus plenty of room to Bop.
a real rock / cool country promotion really wants to thank the loyal supporters who made the Wanda Jackson show happen. For without YOUR continued and loyal support a real rock promotion can not bring in such great talents into the Eastern Pennsylvania area. Remember it does NOT happen unless you’re face is in the place.
However, none the less a real rock / cool country promotion wants to thank in particular the following for their help in getting the word out about the May 9th Wanda Jackson Rockabilly Concert...
A big Thank You to all the area radio personalities Mister Neil Hever of WDIY and Burr Bread, Fred Boeing and everybody else at WXLV 90.3 FM and WDIY 88.1 FM. From WLVR 91.7 FM Mike McMillian and Mary of the Compact Disc Center and other record stores including Borders and Play it Again. Especially Idle Rich Gensiak, for his air time help at WMUH 91.7 FM and his help in getting the promo pack to Geoff Gehman to write the article in the May 8, 2008 edition of the Allentown Morning Call’s - Go Guide section of GO Picks page 33. And yes I momentarily forgot "Cousin Sheila's Record Hop" also heard on WMUH 91.7 FM. Also I temporarily forgot our good demented friends; Hot Rod Scott Binder and Professor Ouch on the "Roots-Rockabilly Roadhouse Show" at WVLT 92.1 FM in Vineland, New Jersey.
Other publications we like to thank are Ronnie Gower of the Lehighton News Times, Tim Greco of the Hazelton Standard Speaker newspaper, Ruth Isenberg of
Journal Newspapers Of Pennsylvania in White Haven.
This thank you list must include Tim Markey and Lisa at our host venue the Flag Staff Ballroom.
And of course thank yous go to the bands Barry Ryan's Rockabilly Express- and The Lustre Kings- and the star of the event Wanda Jackson and Wendell Goodman for the booking arrangement.
Country Music Legend Wanda Jackson is one of the few female originators of Rockabilly and Rock and Roll, from having actually dated
Elvis Presley
to her latest documentary, "The Sweet Lady with a Nasty Voice".
Wanda Jackson was discovered by Hank Thomson in her home town of Oklahoma City.
Wanda recorded pure county music for her first label, Decca Records in 1954. While dating,
Elvis Presley
convinces
Wanda
to start recording and performing Rockabilly Music, that is country with a solid upbeat swing that is better know today as pure unadulterated Rock and Roll !
She sighed with Capitol Records and quickly formed the now famous Party Timers to back her up. The Party Timers included new up starts members Buck Owens and Roy Clark (later to become famous from the Hee-Haw TV shows in the 60s-80s). Jerry Reed also became a Party Timer after Buck Owens started making it on his own.
Elvis
and
Wanda
both recorded "Let's Have A Party" as did the Collins Kids, but it was Wanda's version that is heard in the sound track of the " Dead Poets Society" Movie with Robin Williams.
In 1960
Wanda
hit the #1 top spot on both Billboard’s Popular Hot 100 and Country Charts with a song she wrote entitled "Right Or Wrong".
Wanda
has recorded over 40 albums. In 2000 Wanda Jackson became the first year Female Artist Inductee into The International Rock-A-Billy Hall of Fame in where else but Jackson, Tennessee. Also
Wanda
is a Rock And Roll Hall of Fame Nominee.
Last Year County Music Television Channel (CMT) listed Wanda Jackson in their Top 40 All Time Female County Artists.

THE GOOD NEWS IS THE GUEST PAGE IS UP & WORKING AGAIN...

It seemed another favorite page was my rockabilly links. This new website does have more features and links. I now consider it to be as good as the old site. Check back form time to time to see what's been added. Also some links can be made on page.
Just pasing the news along.
Subject: Style
For a great pompadour, try getting your haircut at The Rockabilly Barber, with three locations in Long Island, New York. Ask for the owner, Robert Wagner.
As you look through this site you will find sentences that don't seem to fit in as far rockabilly goes. Sorry, but that is because I am still useing a template in places and writing over it. So until I get every thing is cleaned up you can expect some blah, blah, blah, still going on in places.
